A Brief Overview of the Congress

1. 55 countries took part in the Congress and 43 of them are IIR member countries. 12 non-member countries are represented; these countries are: Singapore, Iran, Mongolia, Thailand, Kuwait, Latvia, Brazil, Kirgizistan, Ireland, Mexico and South Africa. We would like to welcome these countries aboard as member countries in the near future and are directing efforts to this process.

575 Foreign attendees came to the Congress along with many accompanying persons, and there were 733 Chinese participants, so the total number of participants was 1308.

2. I got the impression that the scientific activities went very well. Two plenary sessions, 5 courses, 13 short courses and 64 technical sessions were held. In all, 876 papers and posters were presented.

200 persons took part in technical tours.

Moreover, 12 press agencies and reporters handled extensive publicity of the Congress.

3. The social programme seems to have beenmuch appreciated. The opening and closing ceremonies were highly successful. During the opening ceremony, we provided simultaneous translation in English, French and Chinese in order to highlight the IIR's official languages, English and French, and Chinese is of course our language here in Beijing.

The Welcome Reception, the banquet and the acrobatics show were free for participants. What's more, the registration fees were inexpensive thanks to valuable corporate sponsorship.

4. The Organizing Committee and the Science and Technology Committee of the Congress worked very hard and received IIR support throughout the preparation. Over the past few years, 98 professors and experts were invaluable volunteers: we are grateful to them for their time and efforts. Also, 51 young volunteers have assisted us during the Congress. The combined contributions of all these persons have made sure that the Congress was successful.

5. 20 foreign and Chinese companies have sponsors the Congress, providing precious financial backing.

To summarize, the Congress has provided a forum for hundreds of persons from all parts of the world and it has been a successful event. Of course, this was the first Congress we have organized, and if there were any shortcomings, we are sorry about that. Last but not least, we'd like to thank all of you for your cooperation.

Un Petit Bilan du Congrs

1. Il y a 55 pays qiu ont particp ce Congrs. Parmi ces pays, il y a 43 pays-membres de I'IIF. 12 pays sont non pays-membres, Tels que Signpour, Iran, Mongolie, Thalande, Kweit, Lettonie, Brsil, Kirghizistan, Ukraine, Irlande, Mexique, Afrique du Sund. Ce sont de nouveaux amis de l'IIF. Nous devons faires des efforts pour qils puissent devenir de nouveaux pays-membres de l'IIF.
Parmi les participants, il y a 575 trangers, y compris les accompagnateurs, et environ 733 Chinois, en tout 1308 personnes.

2. L'atmosphre scientifique du Congrs me parat aussi t trs bonne.

Nous avons organis 2 sances plnires, 5 cours, 13 sminaires et 64 sessions techniques des Commissions. On a prsent et affich en tout 876 communications. On a organis aussi 11 visites techniques et environ 200 personnes y ont particip.
Nous allons offrir tout l'heure des prix pour rcompenser les meilleurs posters. Nous avons diffus sur Internet la crmonie d'ouverture et les sessions plnires.
De plus, il y a 12 agences de presse et journal qui ont rendu compte des travaux du Congrs.

3. Les activits sociales me paraissent avoir t trs bien prpares.

Les crmonies d'ouverture et de clture ont t couronnes de succs. Notamment pour la crmonie d'ouverture, on a ralis la traduction simultane franais C anglias C chinois pour mettre en avant les deux langues officielles de l'IIF, le franaise et l'anglais et bien sr notre propre langue.
La rception de bienvenue, le banquet et les acrobaties ont t offerts gratuitement tous les participants. Et les frais d'inscription ne sont pas levs. La raison la plus importante, C'est que nons avons obtenus les soutiens des entreprises.

5. Le Congrs a obtenu les soutiens de 20 entreprises trangres et chinoises. C'est une garantie financire pour le Congrs.

Bref, nous avons organis un Congrs de l'unit et un Congrs du succs. Mais, C'est la premire fois que nous prparons un Congrs, il y a certainement des insuffisances et des dfauts. Le vous prie de nous en excuser.
